With working for years, what I understood of my Leaders is that they must have a secret recipe towards Leadership.

I wondered what fuels them towards such successful Leadership, what fuels them audacity towards thoughtful decision making and what fuels the psychological ownership of operations.

With many more years of close observation of behaviors of Leadership I can today put forward few instinctive and intuitive aspects of Leadership.

Gain Knowledge

Know your strength and weakness- they have a constant endeavor towards knowing their own strengths and weakness along with opportunities to improvise. The Knowledge of self is prima facie what it makes them a better individual. 

Material compassion lamentation and tears are all signs of ignorance of the real self. Compassion for the eternal soul is self-realization.

Thus it is of apex importance that we realize our potential by knowing ourselves, and use compassion at the right place, as it is still very rare of people using Compassion at the right place.

What we know today of ourselves is what we are Qualified of through Schools and Universities. 

Know your people deep- They know their people deep. The way they know themselves, they imbibe these qualities of knowing their people well, in order to ensure they attain the right path.

Know your industry deep- The know their battlefield deep, to make the most impactful inroads to success. Unless the knowledge of path is attained, walking  the path is impossible and full of failures. Knowledge of own field or battleground is paramount to win the ground.

Master the principles of leadership- It is well known phrase now, “Jack of All Trades and Master of One”, however the Corporate Leadership is changing fast. The new normal today is “Jack of All Trades and Master of Many.” They a have clear and distinct style of Leadership which is practiced and mastered with time.

Detailed written personal development plan- A Leader once is always a Leader doesn’t work in today’s VUCA world. They always keep a distinct Development plan for future. A continuously working plan which improvises all aspects of Leadership. They constantly keep regenerating before the stagnation of Leadership is attained.

Reach Out 

Invest in growth of subordinates-  Reach out to your Team, they know them deep and invest in their Success. A Leader is one who leads the way for success of his subordinates or followers, thus investing the entire Gained Knowledge to ensure the success of the follower.

Mentoring relationships with other leaders-  One cannot be working in isolation and also not in the halo of someone else. They co-create a Symbiotic mentoring relationship and also practice with other leadership styles, which keeps the grace of inclusiveness of ideas of a completely different style of leadership operations.

Frequently see and seize teachable moments- A-knowledge acquired withers out if not shared and spread. A Leader constantly endeavours to seek and seize opportunities to teach the knowledge to peers or to the team as opportunity allows.

Master communication skills-  What is heard from a Leader has a great Impact, mastering the  skill of Communication is paramount. Communication should not be misinterpreted as cool and calm tonality of voice and fluency of a language, but it has to be always a two way communication which is heard, understood, remembered and feedback exchanged.

Open Your World

Constantly look for opportunity to grow at work- Learn the art of Growth and constant focus on adaptation and path from the Rivers. They are formless, yet have a constant adaptation and never loose their form of flowing to their destination. Leaders keep themselves formless and keep adapting and grabbing every opportunity to grow.

Seek new experience outside work desk- Look for additional opportunities. The mind culture of “My Job – Your Job” is another unforeseen challenge in the path of Leadership success. Leaders are always in constant endeavor and search of opportunities to exhibit their abilities to pick up any and every piece of work. “Ensure to put finger in every cake that is baked.”

Every day is an opportunity to learn-  What brings monotony to most Leaders is the self acclaimed contentment of achievement and finding not worthy aspects there from. Leaders get in the frame of “This is it, have achieved what I wanted.” However the reality is, a constantly growing Leader every day is in a new struggle to move forward, every day and every person is a new learning for them.

A famous saying says – “Success can be achieved only when you are Jealous of something you Don’t have;”

Walk to Wisdom

Actively seek feedback- Every corner is has person who can criticize, however the ones who do have never done anything on their own. Leaders have a positive mindset to take Feedback. They have a group of Critiques. This way a Leader keeps his constant endeavor to know self, ever alive and improvises and development is a never ending process.

Have trustworthy group for discussions- a group of active critique always plays a vital role in a Leaders constant development. Discussions on gap areas or the Blind Window , is always worked upon. This discussion group should be carefully picked up and must be very active in meaningful discussion than grapevine.

Master art of discipline of asking profound questions- Leaders should not be blind followers, today the have the audacity to have mindful questioning ability in the best interest to have better clarity to work upon. This creates trust of clarity of thoughts amongst the subordinate or followers. A similar attribute is being instilled in the subordinates by the Leader which is a re-investment of his skills and knowledge to his own team and further the success.

Consistently tell yourself the truth of your leadership-   Keep True to yourself. A Leader in today’s VUCA world constantly  tells himself the truth of his own Leadership. Spares time and introspection. This lets them being The True Themselves without garb of any pseudo face to be carried.

With these I somehow closely relate many Leaders in my corporate career having worked upon and constantly working upon.

As a result I have witnessed Leaders on a Constant path to G.R.O.W
